Vocabulary
Directions:
Each chapter has a list of vocabulary words for you to know. I want you to click on each word to be taken to the definition. Some of the words have more than one meaning. I want you to use context clues to decide which meaning the book is trying to use. For each chapter you must use one of our vocabulary strategies for each word. What is a Zwieback cookie?
What was Ralph talking about when he said zwieback cookies? It turns out they are a kind of snack made by Nabisco. If you want to try them out Nabisco still makes them.
Chapter 1 Assignment
You are going to write your first entry for "The Mouse and the Motorcycle" in your journal! In this entry I want you to write about Ralph. I want you to tell me at least 4 facts about Ralph. You can use your book and the website with Ralph's biography. After you write about Ralph I want to know 4 interesting facts about yourself.
Chapter 4 Assignment
It is time for you to tell me about your favorite toy. In the book the motorcycle is both Keith and Ralph's favorite thing. I want you to tell me about your favorite toy. Your entry must have at least 3 reasons you like this toy. I would also like you to try a picture of your favorite toy in your journal.
Chapter 6 Assignment
In chapter 6 Ralph describes a Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich without saying the names of the ingrediants. I want to see if you can do the same thing. In your journal you will write about your favorite food. You must have at least three different descriptive sentences. If you need help look at page 64 to see how Ralph does it. Your food cannot be Peanut Butter & Jelly. Have Fun!
Chapter 10 Assignment
In Chapter 10 "An Anxious Night" Keith became very sick. He had a fever and could not get the rest he needed. I want you to tell me about a time when you got sick. I want you to put your writing in your journal. Your entry must include at least one sympton you had and one way you got better.
Final Assignment
The final assignment for the book is to make a diorama of your favorite part of the book. A diorama is a 3-D version of something. The diorama should be approximately the size of a shoe box. After completing the diorama you will need to write a summary of the scene that you choose to make. I have put a list of the required parts of each part of the final assignment. I have also put in a picture of different dioramas.

- The diorama should be at least 8 inches long
- At least two identifying pieces from the book (example: motorcycle and crash helmet)
- At least one paragraph with a description of your scene
- At least one reason you choose this part of the book
- At least one reason you liked this part of the book
